Flying into RDU

Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) is approximately a 25-minute drive from UNC’s campus. RDU is an easy-to-navigate airport with only two terminals. Most airlines operate out of Terminal 2, except Southwest and Spirit Airlines out of Terminal 1.

In terms of getting from RDU to Chapel Hill, there are several transportation options. Ride share services (Lyft, Uber) can pick up directly from Departures at RDU. There is a designated rideshare pick-up area, and RDU has clear signs directing where this pick-up area is located. Pricing of Lyft and Uber will vary depending on the time of day.

For a more affordable transportation option, it takes approximately an hour to get from RDU to UNC’s campus by bus. Buses pick up from both Terminals 1 and 2. GoTriangle Route 100 and Route RDU buses service the Regional Transit Center (RTC). GoTriangle buses are fare-free until June 30, 2024. From the RTC, the GoTriangle Route 800 can get riders directly to UNC’s medical campus by getting off at the UNC Hospitals stop; GoTriangle Route 805 from the RTC to the UNC Hospitals stop is another excellent option. Roper Hall is a quick 7-minute walk from this stop.

Getting to Roper Hall

Roper Hall is on UNC’s medical campus at 150 Medical Dr, Chapel Hill, NC 27514.

Roper Hall is accessible via walking from nearby Chapel Hill or Carrboro. Chapel Hill Transit is a free bus system with numerous routes throughout Chapel Hill and Carrboro. Maps applications (like Google Maps) will show Chapel Hill Transit routes, though you may want to confirm schedules and routes on the official website.

Other options are the GoTriangle Routes: Route 800 and 805 come from the Regional Transit Center stop and go to UNC Hospitals. GoTriangle Route 400 runs from Durham and stops at the UNC Hospitals stop as well. GoTriangle Route 405 runs from Carrboro to Durham and has an intermediate stop at the UNC Hospitals stop.

The Triangle Area is navigable by car, and Chapel Hill is no exception. The biggest consideration for those driving to campus for the conference will be parking (see below).

Parking

If you drive to the conference, several campus parking options exist. The Bell Tower Parking Deck and FedEx Global Education Center/McCauley Deck are available parking options. The Bell Tower Deck is a 3-minute walk from Roper Hall, while the McCauley Deck is a 7-minute walk. These parking areas are free (no permit required) from 5pm on Friday to 7:30am Monday, so you will be able to park at the conference for free. For more information and a parking map, visit https://move.unc.edu/parking/weeknight-parking/ - all of the weeknight parking lots should be available for weekend parking as well.

Please do NOT park in the Dogwood Deck. This parking structure is reserved for hospital patient and patient visitor parking.
